Access Locking will not prevent contention in this scenario if you are using MLOAD or any DML such as table renames that require an EXCLUSIVE LOCK. The reason being is the COGNOS query tool (Impromptu) does not release locks, even access locks unless you have specifically set the read parameter to "READ UNCOMMITTED". You can do this in the Administrator version of Impromptu... 1. Open the catalog 2. Select Catalog, User Profiles, Database 3. Under the "Database Transaction" section, change the setting to "Read Uncommitted" Also, make sure the user has changed the Report Setting for retrieving ALL rows in interactive sessions... Within the opened Catalog... Select the 'Report' menu Select 'Query' Click on the 'Access' Tab In the section called 'Data Retrieval' uncheck the box labeled 'Retrieve only the required rows' Michael E. McBride
