Following on from the recent considerations regarding Prefix matching, I've been looking at doing some Customer Name matching.

I've had a look at using SOUNDEX against a 'crunched' input name (I did the crunching, by the way, stripping out non-alphabetic characters).

To my surprise, I'm getting names having the same Soundex value but the actual crunched names themselves are completely different, other than the first letter.

Has anybody used Soundex in a way that successfully matches very similar names?
