In designing tables, the decision on using VARCHAR vs CHAR for columns, which to use when and why based on space savings, CPU usage..etc. Since you can't compress VARCHAR columns which saves you more? Making it CHAR then try to compress based on Multivalue (V2R5) or VARCHAR?

Does Teradata have a "standard" on when to use which and why?

What do other customers out there do?
