Subj:   Re: Arcmain Questions

From:   Bergman, Ysbrand

Hi Jeremy,

The first step during a restore (local system) or copy (local or remote system) is that arcmain overwrites (restore) or creates (copy) the dictionary for the database object. This will effectively delete all your data. rows.

A slightly different column definition during a copy will not cause any problems since the dictionary entries for that database object will be replaced with the one from tape.

One can copy tables from different databases to one new target database.

Eg:
DataBase1.Table1 -> Database2.Table1
DataBase2.Table1 -> Database2.Table2
DataBase4.Table5 -> Database2.Table7
DataBase3.Table9 -> Database2.Table9

Ysbrand
