Could you elaborate more on:

"inserting or updating many rows"

What I am curious about is how many rows the application tries to update, the number of Teradata nodes and transactions per second (there is more to consider).

Usually I think of an OLTP application as managing business record keeping activities and therefore updating only a small number of rows. However I have seen applications running at over 2000 CPU seconds per transaction, leaving developers and managers wondering why their transactions run so long.

I think "Anom" has hit the nail on the head, success comes from deliberate design.
