For Teradata, if no stats exist, the optimizer will randomly sample an AMP (RAS) to gather a basis for optimizer costs. It may be the sample vs. actual.

Collect stats on tablename column colunname - will collect stats for the specified columname.

Collect stats on tablename - will recollect stats for all columns/indexes with existing stats. This will not necessarily collect stats on every column of the table - unless every column has statistics present already.
