Subj:   TABLEWAIT default and other questions..

From:   Frank C. Martinez IV

Hello all,

Well, I wanted to ask if anyone has used the TABLEWAIT option using any of the load processes and how it worked, and also a couple of questions about TENACITY and SLEEP. Anyway, here are the questions:

1) I've seen Multiloads to the same table wait for each other before, where one was in Application phase and the other was just starting the Initialize phase. I assume that the second load, in Initialize, was just waiting for the lock to be released. It did seem that the load that got in first took a lot longer than usual, but after it got done, the second one started. How is this different when using the TABLEWAIT option and specifying a number of hours?

2) There does not appear to be a default for TABLEWAIT, so I assume that whatever special it does (get an error, wait the SLEEP time and then restart) does not happen by default. Is that true? Is there a way to specify a system-wide default for TABLEWAIT so that all loads use it? It's not something that can be specified in the MultiLoad configuration file, and our load scripts are being created by Informatica, so we don't have a good way to incorporate this automagically into the scripts themselves.

3) Is there a way to alter the defaults for TENACITY and SLEEP? I realize this is a theoretical question, but I thought I'd ask.

4) When your load is in the SLEEP state, put there by the TABLEWAIT option, and it wakes up, does it occupy a slot specified by MaxLoadTasks already, or does it have to regain one of those? Can it then go into SLEEP because of the TENACITY option? Anyway, I know, I know, this one's real theoretical, but I'd still like to know.

Thanks!

iv
