Subj:   Re: Beating my head with ERwin again..

From:   David Clough

Hi all,

Recently I spoke with a (UK) Technical Sales person with respect to my Teradata Erwin enhancement request DAR 12008159 (which had a host of things that would enhance the Teradata aspect in Erwin, such as Join Indexes).

I asked for a status update on those enhancements and was told that, whilst in principle they have been accepted, whether or not they would be included in the tool would depend upon how many other Erwin users independently ask for similar enhancements.

Essentially therefore, it seems that CA look at these enhancements as a marketing opportunity, dependent upon customer input. On the face of it, not too unreasonable. I asked whether I could pass the DAR number to other Erwin users for them to hassle CA ... you'll probably remember the Forum discussions that took place about Erwin some time back.

CA's point (at least that of the UK representative) was that this wouldn't be the appropriate path to take .... sigh.

HOWEVER, if you would like to independently send me a note personally of the fact that you use Erwin for Teradata, I would be happy to keep a tally of Teradata Erwin users (for a month, shall we say, in order to avoid missing those on holiday) and use that information to pressure CA into some sort of action (and report back to the Forum with any CA response in the fullness of time).

So, please do let me know if you use Erwin.

/* Note on Forum, dated 14/11/2002 16:23

"Somewhat coincidentally, my colleagues and I have just spoken with our CA Customer Care representative, with Teradata being high up on our agenda.

His point was that the more customers that contact CA about features required in Erwin for a particular database, the more likely it is that individual features will be given priority.

Again, I would emphasize contacting CA directly, and perhaps mentioning that DAR number (12008159).

I guess what we could all do (at least those that are interested) is all keep a tally of those people that do contact CA about enhancements if, after contacting CA, a note is posted to the forum to that effect".*/
