Actually The value which u r being inserted does not fit into a field. At that time the value is rounded. The way DECIMAL types are rounded is user-selectable. Teradata RDBMS rounds using the first non-stored value.

IF the value is < 5 THEN it is rounded down ...

IF the value is > 5 THEN it is rounded up
