Subj:   Case sensitivity in duplicate value checking against character datatypes question

From:   Meade, Cornelius

Question,

It appears that case does not factor in dup checking compound UPI values during fastload (i.e. UPI composed of two or more table columns) when one of columns is of CHAR or VARCHAR datatype.

For example: for SET TABLE A defined as

COL1 CHAR(3) NOT NULL
COL2 SMALLINT NOT NULL
COL3 VARCHAR(80) NULL
and UPI composed of (COL1,COL2)

An attempt to fastload the following file would result in one of the data rows erred off as a duplicate of the first:

COL1 COL2 COL3
-------- --------
-----------------------------------------------------------
AAA 100 sample data row 1
aaa 100 sample data row 2

As I do not recall seeing this as a problem before, I was just wondering if anyone else had run into this or knew definitively where it was documented that this works as it apparently does. In case anyone is wondering the system on which this was encountered is running V2R412....Thanks in advance.....Neil
