Thanks Frank, But this is precisely why I posted the question. The term 'fast path' seems to be used for different levels of optimization. The manual uses fast path to imply *ONLY* the 'no TJ' optimization - did not require matching DDL as you indicate. There are other levels of optimization a) no spool required b) (spool required, but) no sort required on that spool c) no redistribution required d) no TJ required The case Frank cited - matching DDLs with 1 source, will use all the 4 above mentioned optimization levels. I am picking on the use of term 'fast path' as in the manual to bring out and understand the differences in the 4 optimization levels. Kumaran Anantaraman
