We have a tendency to avoid BYTEINT on columns of this nature because it is not ANSI. This requirement is for DDL portability to our non-Teradata datamarts that do not recognize BYTEINT.

In most cases we use either a DECIMAL datatype or SMALLINT instead of BYTEINT. As far as the potential additional space usage of these datatypes, we are expecting to recoup it using V2R5's multi-value compression.

Other than the ANSI issue , I know of no other reason not to use a BYTEINT datatype.
