Subj:   Re: Teradata Production, Acceptance Test, Testing and Development environments

From:   Wolf, Steven

We actually have 4 environments. Batch development, customer query development, test, & production. It vastly simplifies the dev to production pipeline & separates batch development and query development. The down side is that it requires more resources to maintain. Patches and DBMS upgrades have to be scheduled well in advance to get them on all the servers. One cannot load balance between them. And it gets very expensive to manage server upgrades to all those environments. It also means separate eTL servers and sometimes separate query servers. There always exists the issue of getting multiple feeds from the source systems for each envrionment.

We are evaluating merging them back into fewer environments. I think you should stay where you are for a while.
