Jim,

The later case will not run in parallel and since will not use sync scan. It would only run in parallel if using a PI. This is not.

If you wish to utilize sych scan, you'll need to run these in parallel by running multiple processes. Let's call this a third option.

Otherwise the 1st option is less intrusive. The 3rd options is less intrusive from an I/O standpoint but could use more intrusive on the CPU at any point in time since they are running in parallel.

So, it depends what your system is constrained on at the time you run this.
