Cheers Geoff The reference table is that small (at least the number of rows added at a time is small), the colleague types them in manually via Queryman using 'insert into tableA values (v1,v2,...vx)' as and when new values are required. The colleague in question comes from Marketing who do not use MVS. I suppose the other option would be to import a text file to the table destination via Queryman, still not the best method, rather the last resort. By retrieve I meant that I was just running a simple select via ITEQ to see how the values were brought back in TSO against those from the answer set in Queryman - TSO brings back ", Queryman brings back . However the binary values you state are correct - it should be x'5B' () but reverts to x'7F'(") if you look at it in the retrieve. The output after the export changes to x'65' for the =C1 value? The binary for $ is x'4A', IBM reverts the $ in ASCII to x'5B' to get the desired result when retrieved in ITEQ and in the export. Clear as Mud ! Mike
