This error message means that the data file doesn't exactly match the define'ed input somehow. Without seeing the script and data file, knowing things like fixed format, delimited, etc, here are the best guesses:

An improper end of record delimiter - was the file ftp'ed from a different host system? Is your end of file character/characters defined correctly in the define?

Null or other system characters in input fields. Have you run the data file through a viewer utility, looking for these?
