From:   Geoffrey Rommel

We ran into the same issue here and was told the limitation was due to our version of UNIX (MPP-RAS). We were looking to convert to SUN 8 to overcome the UNIX limitation. Looks like there's a tool limit as well.

We have no solution on UNIX, but have been told by same sources that the mainframe and NT do not have a 2 GB limitation.

On the mainframe, that is definitely true, at least for files on tape. The only limit is the number of tapes you can allocate.

Would be interested as well, if anyone has experience/ideas on UNIX to get beyond the 2GB limit.

There is a product called TeraFile from Programmed Logic that is designed to allow files > 2GB on 32-bit UNIX. I don't know whether it works with MP-RAS, though.
