Subj:   Looking for Perl 5.6.1 for MPRAS

From:   Mike Vanole

I'm looking for a pkgadd version of Perl 5.6.1 for MPRAS. Has anybody (NCR?) created one yet? I have successfully compiled the 5.6.1 source and installed it but I would feel better if there were a widely used compilation that was blessed by our vendor.

If not, and you want to be current with your own attempt here are the instructions that I followed. They aren't mine, and I'm not knowledgable enough to help you through errors you may encounter, but this works every time I run through it. TONS of output:

0. get the 5.6.1 source

1. untar the stuff

2. edit ext/POSIX/Makefile.PL to add -lmw to end of lib list
(there appears to be no Configure option to do this)

3. ./Configure -de

4. edit config.sh to change optimize='-O' to optimize='-g'
Done this way to keep -DDEBUGGING out of the picture.

5. ./Configure -S

6. make depend

7. make

8. make test

and the only error is:

lib/bigfltpm FAILED at test 351

9. make install

Thanks,

Mike
