Mary,
Being somewhat new to Teradata I am not sure this is the root cause of your problem but I would say that typically whenever you use
implicit data conversions you run the risk removing any indexes from consideration and performing a full table scan. I have worked in many
RDBMS environments before Teradata and seen this type of behavior many, many times.....
