Hi Audrey and all: Eric has made many fine points here on the OLTP vs DSS. Rather than repeat any of them, realize that I agree. However, one added point is that OLTP would use smaller rows and smaller block sizes than DSS. With OLTP you want subsecond response. The smaller the block, the less data is transferred - thus, faster response. In other words, you will still have one "database" design for OLTP and a completely different database design for DSS. Yet, they both can reside on the same Teradata system. Regards and happy hunting, Mike
