Thanks for the input, unfortunately there is no NUSI on the large table that joins to the NUPI of the 2 ref. tables. The table was designed this way 2-3 years ago without this join in mind (the ref. tables did not exist). It is only now that the development of new feeds have queried the design of the table on the warehouse.

I have already pointed this out as the best (if not the only) method but the owners are unwilling due to the extra space usage - looks like I'll just have to keep the code as is!
