Subj:   Graceful shut down of Teradata

From:   John Stovall

We have a new two node Teradata system here and recently had a problem with the vprocs when the cabinet UPS's shut down both nodes during a power outage.

We were told by the NCR Field engineer that although the UPS's will take UNIX gracefully to 0 state, the shut down process does not take Teradata down gracefully.

As anyone encountered this problem? What was your solution? Our system is in a computer room which is manned only from 0800 to 1700 hours. We are currently looking at writing scripts to take Teradata down when it goes to UPS power but this appears to be non-trivial.
