Yonina, Your statement that Teradata never uncompresses the data is different than my understanding. At one point, someone told me the compressed value is uncompressed in spool. The explanation continued that the trade-off is that more rows can be fetched in a block but you do incur a hit as data is spooled out. It makes sense to me that the DBMS created copies (spool\derived tables etc...) with the same characteristics (compression) and would never have to uncompress. If Teradata never has to uncompress the value, it is a much more powerful feature than I thought. Thanks Jim
