Probably splitting hairs, but model security is not handled via BI/Query, but BI/Broker, and then is only active when a model is
published to the repository.
I also am surprised by the necessity to lock dbc tables. Our concerns of users accessing our info warehouse via ODBC using any tool
other than BI/Query is not the visibility of DBC, but rather misuse of the IW data. User groups and views take care of who sees what, but
there are inherent problems getting at the right data in the right manner if you are not familiar with the structure of the data model -
which describes the larger portion of a user community.
Coming in the ODBC back door with the likes of MS Access means no business names appear, no BI/Query calculated fields or variables
appear, and most importantly, no relationships appear. Users have to create their own relationships; a bad idea in a complex db.
The flip side to this is, of course, administering this ODBC access to ensure integrity - which I suspect is the case anyway. We only
provide IW access via the BI/Suite.
