Have you tried C style comments?

eg /* This is a comment */

I don't know the exact rules, but generally you are better off putting comments on a line by themselves. In some cases, the comment may be submitted to the Teradata for processing.

Here is a comment on comments from the fastload manual

Comment Destinations: Comments are always written to the message destination, and they may or may not be sent to the Teradata RDBMS.
