  With Teradata, we don't HAVE TO denormalize for performance  



Quoting Kimball chapter and verse, there are other reasons for denormalizing dimension tables. One, is to make the model more understandable. Another is to make it easier on the reporting tools for generating SQL.

It seems to me there is a third reason: to integrate models from multiple source systems a good Kimball-esque star schema will be independent of the shape of any source model.

Does anyone on this list have an opinion on these reasons?
