Hi Ruth,

I have been working with Proxima Technology for some time now. Proxima Technology developed the "Teradata Knowledge Module for BMC Patrol". They are also working on KMs for Tivoli, CA Unicenter, Compuware's Eco Tools and HP Openview. Only BMC Patrol is available now.

What they did was write to the performance APIs that Teradata provides. This is where Teradata Manager gets its performance data from as well. If in your environment you want to report on this performance data at the enterprise level such as BMC Patrol you will either have to use SNMP traps or the KM that Proxima Provides. This plug-in is much easier to use and your operations DBA does not have to know Teradata to use it. All he/she has to know is BMC Patrol.

So that's great for your operations DBA who can now alert the Teradata DBA if something were to go on with the Teradata system, and it will free up some time for your Teradata DBA. Your Teradata DBA and application developers will still want to have Teradata Manager as well as this product comes with many more tools such as the new Visual Explain and Compare tool.

Take a look at:

Feel free to contact Claude Paine for more information about Proxima Technology. He is in Proxima Technology sales.

Feel free to give me a call as well as Enterprise Management is a big area. It sounds like you are on the right track.

Best regards,
