We weren't John, that was the problem. Prior to BO our main tools were PC/SQL originally, then WinBTEQ and then Queryman. All basic SQL
extraction tools. We had a brief affair with GQL but found that allthough it was nice and 'pointy clicky', you still had to understand SQL
and the data to write queries. More advanced users were also employing SAS for it's extra analytical and data manipulation capabilities.
The problem we had with this arrangement was that data in the warehouse was only accessible to the select few who had SQL and possibly SAS
skills. By the time they had translated what the user was saying to what they actually wanted, written the query then refined it based on
the results, quite a bottleneck would form. It was good to ensure the correct queries were being written, but slow at the same time.

Incidentally for those interested in this particular thread, we have just gone through our first lot of super user training and have not
had a unfavourable response yet. Reactions range from 'brilliant' to 'it's just so simple'. So the signs are good, it still remains to be
seen whether all our hard work is worth it when the system is used in anger though!
