Subj:   SOS! Teradata and Business Objects

From:   Dave Sedgwick

Hello everyone,

This is my first posting to the group, although I have been monitoring it for several months now. I was wondering if anyone has been heavily involved with implementing Business Objects with a Teradata RDBMS as the data provider. We are currently developing a Merchandising MIS using Business Object 5.03 and Teradata V2R3 on a 4800 box.

The data volumes involved are in my opinion fairly large for an OLAP solution but we have successfully developed reports that the business is happy with. Our major problem at the moment is queries spooling out on Teradata. We are happy with the structure of our tables and have in fact had both Business Objects and NCR expertise involved in the development.

In particular I am interested if anyone has had problems with the way tables are aliased by Business Objects and how Teradata deals with them. We have seen jobs taken 20 mins+ and 10Gb+ of spool when written by BO where some tables are aliased, some are not. The same job taking less than a minute when run separately from BO (but using the same ODBC driver connection) with the aliases removed. Go figure.?

I have plenty of other questions on overall universe and table design, time dimensions etc but I will only bore anyone who is really interested.

Dave
