Angela Maria, The 224 is probably the "vendor's" native error code, in this case a "you've got a problem with your hosts file" error message. I've never used JDBC itself, but if this were a WinCli application the error would be caused by you trying to logon to a machine called "fred" (i.e. your logon string is "logon fred/user,password") and there are no "fredcop?" entries in your hosts file.
