I have never tried this on a tape produced by arcmain so try it on a test tape first (I guess one of the failed arcmain tapes is probably ok 'cos they sound like you can't use them anymore anyway). On NT, there is a utility called backup (which backs stuff up to tape). This has a menu option to erase a tape. You could try this. ---- Alternatively --- To erase a tape, try tapecntl -e /dev/your_tape_drive_special_name_here for example tapecntl -e /dev/rmt/c0t3d0s0 Good Luck (and remember I haven't tried this on an arcmain tape myself).
