Subj:   Teradata OS

From:   David Nasser

Greetings,

As a consultant, I've begun working with a mainframe (OS/390) shop with an NCR Teradata box channel-attached. My work depends on accessing TD data from the mainframe.

I have much to learn about Teradata.

TD runs on a 32-bit NCR Unix op. system which runs on a system with multiple 32-bit Intel cpu's.

Hi-end Unix vendors (Sun, HP, IBM, etc) have been working on 64-bit systems for years. Some already have both 64-bit hardware and (operating) software. The direction that they are heading in is unmistakeable.

What is expected to happen with regard to 64-bit computing and TD? For instance, is NCR expected to port their Unix OS and TD software to, say, Intel IA-64?

Any/all info is much appreciated.

David
