Subj:   Re: StorageTek Silo Archive Performance

From:   Claudio De Luca

The TPA node take all ressources, and it's useless to change the priority of the archive user.

We have a similar configuration (12 nodes TPA 5150 and 6 nodes TPA 5200). We have DLT connected on TPA node and UNIX node.

To do a backup of your system with GOOD performance :

- the bad way is to plan a window for backup time where the system is not too loaded.

- The good solution is to add (or use) a unix node connected with a private FastEthernet network.

That solution works well in our site, even if teradata has an heavy load. The 3 drives DLT connected on our unix node have always a throughput between 6 and 7 MB/s on each drive and together !

In this way you can insure yourself to have no significant variation of the throughput.

the backup of our single node teradata (test system) is now always done by a unix node, it's much quicker (till 8 MB/s) ! ...
