Subj:   Prohibiting users from using their last 24 passwords

From:   JAMES PARK

I am trying to prohibit users from reusing their last 24 passwords. Their passwords expire after 45 days.

In TD 14 I was able to change PasswordReuse column value in DBC.Profiles table using update statement.

Now I have TD 15. When I run the same update statement I get an error "Update failed 5315: The user doesn't have UPDATE access to DBC.Profiles PasswordReuse".

I logged on both as DBC and SYSDBA to grant UPDATE it fails with "3524: The user does not have UPDATE WITH GRANT OPTION access to database DBC."

I read Deiter's posting that says "We can't directly update DBC tables". Is this true?

I could change in V14 but not in 15. Is this one of the changes between these two versions?

How can I change PasswordReuse?

If changing Password Reuse is not possible how can I prohibit users from reusing their last 24 passwords? I don't want to set it in SysSecDefault table.

Thanks,

James
