Subj:   Re: Hosts file entries missing

From:   Myrna, James

Roopalini,

Here are my thoughts:

1) DBC.RESUSAGESPMA table shows the (distinct nodeID) as 22, however when I execute "nslookup Hostname" on the PDN , it gives the name and address only for 19 nodes. Could someone clarify?

2) Also I don't see the entries for hosts names in the /etc/hosts file on the PDN. When the entries are missing, I am wondering how nslookup is resolving the list of names and addresses. I see the same thing on the windows server where the TD client tools are installed, I am able to use the hostname to login. But I do not see the entries in the hosts file in the path C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

Answer:

"nslookup" uses DNS to resolve the hostname, so your system is not using hosts files to resolve IP addresses (which is why you are not seeing entries in the hosts file), you are using DNS. ResUsage shows you had 22 nodes active at some point, yet you can only find 19 of the nodes in DNS. So either someone just didn't bother to register 3 of the nodes, or at some point your system switched over to use Hot Standby nodes, which also are generally not registered in DNS.

Regards,

Jim
