As far as DDL, you can put SHOW in front of whatever DML statement, not just "SELECT * FROM view".

Consider using Query Capture Facility and the Visual Explain tool, even if you don't use the diagram view.

All the things you mention (stats, DDL, etc.) are easily viewable from within this tool.
