Subj:   Re: Encryption Techniques in Teradata 13.10

From:   Geoffrey Rommel

There are at least three kinds of encryption to consider:

1. Hardware encryption on tape drives.

2. Encryption of data at rest in the database.

3. Encryption in the clients, e.g. SQL Assistant, TPT, or ARC.

You probably have no control over #1. #2 is not built in to the database; it requires an add-on product.

As for #3, each client has parameters that allow you to ask for encryption. In TPT, for instance, several operators use DataEncryption='On'. The encryption algorithm used is specified in a TeraGSS configuration file on the client; last time I checked, it was AES-256.
