Backups place a HUT lock on the object it is archiving. You should not be able to update unless somebody ran a manual release lock. I have seen this happen at various sites in the past. If there was not 5000 series restart after the attempt to update then the archive job completed.

Release hutlocks - causing restarts got fixed in later versions in 13 I believe. But, as I said we can let update wait.

The other option of probing TASM is good to. But I hate do such works with TASM. Never know you would find a bug and your update never reaches the system ;-)

Thanks,
