Hi!

You did not consider the RowID and other overheads.

If you do compress testing you can not isolate one column, since compression packs the bits, therefore the optimum can be found on record level.

This implies, that you should try some compression tool, instead of manual experiment, the algorithm is far more complex, and too much manual work...

You can find downloadable solutions on the net.

In addition if you are on V13.10 or above you can compress VARCHAR either.
