James,

Transient journal is the table that is used to rollback failed transactions.

Transient journal would be used for inserts/deletes/updates.

When you delete rows from a table the rows will be placed into the transient journal so they can be put back into the original table if the delete query fails or is aborted. Once the insert/update/delete is complete/committed the rows are removed from the transient journal.
