Subj:   Re: How to Deploy UDF in Teradata

From:   Md, Asifuddin

I was asked to deploy few UDFs [User Defined Functions] in Teradata [These are required to migrate an application from Oracle to Teradata]...

Can any one guide me how to do that ? Any comment/response on the same are appreciated..

I would suggest you to start working with local TD site team where there are well written migration documents (which are well updated) on Do's and Don't's.

If are not getting help from them (OR if you are on your own), you should have TD manual - "SQL External Routine Programming" handy. Chapter 1 in 13.10 manual gives you detailed steps.(includes debugging) And CREATE / ALTER FUNCTION syntaxes in Data definition language will give you good guidance and pointers.

David Glenn - has given a good sample to start understanding on deployment.

Note that there are OracleUDFs given by Teradata(with no warranties) to help out on few functions that oracle provides which may be of use.( get them downloaded from TD site / developer exchange)

* while testing create them protected - they may add overhead but avoid serious issues like SegV and Restarts. When you are confident then you may make them unprotected.
