thanks for the advice on ARCMAIN.

I initially thought the message may be related to not covering the partition and have tried various definitions. However the table and archive are simply

     ...PARTITION BY RANGE_N(SEGMENT_CD  BETWEEN 1   AND 1000  EACH 1 , NO RANGE);
     ...ARCHIVE DATA TABLES   (myTable)  (PARTITIONS WHERE (! SEGMENT_CD BETWEEN 1 AND 20 !)),

Possibly the warning may be related to how restores are carried out. ie only being able to restore a partial table so the warning can't be prevented
