Subj:   Re: Separation of duties between DBA and Developer

From:   Nathan_S_Smith

Hi,

In our environment, there are separate responsibilities based on the environment.

The data designer uses Erwin to create the physical table DDL. Reviews are held with DBA and ETL Architect/Developer.

Once approved, the data designer creates the main table in development using the Erwin generated DDL. The ETLA/Developer has create rights to generate incremental tables to load the main table.

Once development and development testing is complete, the system integration test (SIT) group is responsible for implementing the changes in the SIT environment based on instructions from ETLA/Developer.

Once the change passes SIT and is approved for production, the production DBA is responsible for implementing the change in the production environment based on the instructions from ETLA/Developer. Changes to the production environment require review and approval by many people before implementation.

Nathan
