The BTEQ manual has good explanations on all the mechanics of all the BTEQ commands!, You should try it sometime - save you a lot of time, etc. etc.

The reference for that manual is:

If you have the TD CD for documentation or can get access to it, use the Start_Here.pdf file and that will give you the index. From the index expand the Load and Unload Utilities link and then select the Basic Teradata Query Reference link (that is 'long hand for BTEQ). You will find all the commands in Chapter 5, - etc. etc. etc.
