My vagues thoughts are in this order ..
why not do this drop/create directly from bteq and use errorcode etc to do the conditional logic instead of using an SP ? ( Security ? )
Can you work with doing a .export in bteq before you call the SP ? so that the output from SP actually goes into a file and then noticing that
you are using a shell env, you can manipulate it's o/p in the shell script and make other decisions ....
