Never mind, I just realized what a stupid question I asked.

Not enough coffee yet today.

I forgot about rounding vs. truncation and the maths are not interchangeable.

For those wondering, the below example illustrates this.

     select cast (4.0 as decimal (2 )) / cast (5.0 as decimal(2))

     select 4/5;
