We have recently upgraded our teradata environment from a 5400 (4 nodes) running V2R6 to a 5550 (3 nodes & 2 ficon nodes & 3 bar nodes) running R12, this also has increased our amps from 32amps to 75amps.

While we are experiencing performance improvement for querying, the flip side is that we are experiencing performance degradation for arcmain restores. After detailed work with teradata gsc the conclusion is that this experience is to 'design' rather than a 'bug'.

The core reason for this performance degradation is the increased activity between the data dictionary and the additional amps .

Hi,

I think it is typical

As I was told, If you perform your backup on a different number of amps (32) then restore to 75amps, your rows will be rehashed when doing a restore to a different number of amps, that takes time. If restoring to the same number of amps, no rehash will be done of course.
