The potential disadvantages of the PPI are:

- PPI rows are 2 bytes longer. Table uses more PERM space

- A PI access can be degraded if the partitioning column is not part of the PI

- Joins to non-partitioned tables with the same PI may be degraded

Let me know if you need more info about WHY this happens. If you think about HOW the PPI works, it's quite simple to understand...
