Subj:   Fastload parsing performance

From:   craig_wilson

Hi All,

I have a question on fastload parsing performance. We seem to be having an issue with the throughput of fastload and testing seems to indicate the parsing of our files on the client side of fastload.

We have all our fields specified as varchar(x) at the moment and were thinking of changing ones that we know are of a fixed length to char(x), but these could also be numeric fields e.g.

Our representation of time is a smallint (inside the DB) 0000 to 2359, so we could specify this as a char(4) or a smallint datatype in our fastload DEFINE. Does anyone know which field datatype would parse quickest?

Thanks,

Craig Wilson
