Subj:   Cannot install Shared ICU from TW 8.1 (V2R6.1) Demo

From:   DWellman

Hi all,

I am trying to install the Teradata Demo (V2R6.1) software on a PC. I cannot get CLI or ODBC programs working because "Shared ICU for Teradata" is not installed. The ODBC programs (Queryman in our case) gives an "odbc driver cannot be loaded" message with "system error code 126". The CLI program (in our case Bteq) says that one of the shared ICU files cannot be loaded.

I looked for the "program files\ncr\common files\shared icu for Teradata" folder and it does not exist. And before anyone asks, yes we did install it...

This PC has previously had TW7.0 (V2R5.0 installed and working ok).

Having hit this problem, we removed all Teradata related components, ran the MS Regclean utility, manually removed left over folders etc and re-ran the install.

During the install process for TTU we selected "shared icu", but when it came to install both the ODBC and CLI they both complained that "shared icu" was not installed. We checked in Windows Explorer and the expected folders are not there. In the install wizard you cannot deselect Shared ICU for an interactive install, so that install always runs silently. I can't find any log file to indicate a problem.

We did NOT reboot between the install phases. We only rebooted after all install processes had completed (with error messages).

The dbms starts ok and we can verify via "Teradata service control" and the database Window that the dbms starts and reaches "logons are enabled - the system is quiescent" state. So, the dbms looks ok, it's just the client side which appears to have a problem.

The PC environment is:

- Windows XP Pro with SP3 installed (although we originally had this problem on SP2).

- AMD Athlon64 processor

- 2.5GB memory

- acres of spare disk space

- the system drive is drive 'D' (so 'program Files', 'System32' etc folders are all on the 'D' drive).

- the userid used for installing is an Administrator

Not sure what else to tell you or what else to try.

Has anyone got any ideas ?

Regards,

Dave
